It’s about preserving the small details;
the feelings, the adventures, the little moments and the memories of your children’s early years. They grow up faster than you can ever imagine.
Some day you will look back, thanking the heavens for taking that one day out of your busy schedule to capture them as they were – your daughter’s giggles, your son’s big toothless grin, little hands knotting in your hair. Bright eyes, chubby cheeks and bruised knees. Flicking through your family album or gazing up at the wall piece, your heart turns warm and tender. A big smile spreads across your face and everything that stressed you five minutes ago suddenly seem so small; so insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
The main difference between lifestyle and studio photography
(Other than the obvious one; location!) is the fact that a lifestyle storytelling approach allows your family to completely relax, be yourselves and have fun together in a natural environment. A photography studio is a foreign place for most of us and can make anyone feel nervous and unsettled. Most kids, on the other hand, love to explore the great outdoors.
Gentle suggestions and directions
are used as a means of structure but nothing is ever forced. The best moments are captured in-between activities and the whole purpose of a session is to have fun. Not in a cheesy, strenuous “everybody look at the camera” way but in an authentic, honest and intimate one.
The majority of my lifestyle photography sessions are held outdoors in beautifully leafy, natural locations. I use an informal and relaxed approach to photographing families – spending almost as much time playing with the children and chatting to you, as capturing your photographs.
