Driving up the hill to Wimbledon Common, I had my doubts.
Not about the family, of course. But about the weather, and whether it was going to hold up for us. The skies were looking grey and heavy. Just as I stepped out of the car the first drops started to hit. Then I spotted the family from across the parking lot. They were fully prepared with jumpers and umbrellas. Not a frown on their faces. What a lovely sight!
My first impression was a warm sense of welcome.
They were all happy to see me. The whole lot were wearing some sort of jeans blue and both the little girls wore their blonde hair out loose. I had secretly practiced their names before getting into my car but was still very delighted when I got them right! Emilia and Isabel. Beautiful names!
The canopy of trees protected us from the drizzling rain,
yet still somehow let enough light through to capture some amazing photographs. The woodland setting was lovely, actually! I love woodland settings. It was very green with quite a lot of overgrowth and low hanging branches. We found a den, a pile of logs and lots of small little woodland paths where we could go looking for minibeasts.
After a while, the rain had stopped and so we walked back out of the woods into a great open field. The wind was blowing, toying with Emilia's and Isabel's hair, and I got lots of photographs filled with both playfulness, heart-felt emotion and intimacy. It was perfect!
